Atlético Madrid have reached an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain to sign South Korean midfielder Lee Kang-in. The deal is expected to be finalised imminently, with PSG set to receive a transfer fee of nearly €40 million.
Transfer terms
The agreement, which was first mooted several weeks ago, marks the end of a two-year spell in France for the 25-year-old, who joined the Parisian club from RCD Mallorca in 2023 for €22 million. The proposed fee represents a significant return on investment for the French side, who stand to recoup almost double the amount they initially paid to secure his signature.
Squad role at Parc des Princes
During his time in Paris, Lee established himself as a trusted squad member without becoming a guaranteed starter under manager Luis Enrique. The South Korea international made 39 appearances across all competitions last season, though only 19 of those were from the starting eleven. He contributed four goals and five assists, proving decisive on nine occasions in total.
Despite these contributions, the attacking midfielder was not regarded as an undisputed first-team regular, prompting speculation over his future throughout the summer window.
Return to La Liga
The transfer represents a return to familiar territory for the Incheon-born player and the start of a new chapter in his career. Having previously featured for Valencia and Mallorca in Spain, Lee has accumulated 110 appearances in La Liga. This existing experience of the division should aid his integration into his new surroundings.
With the clubs now in agreement over the financial terms, only the formalities remain before the move is completed. Lee will aim to secure a more prominent role in the Spanish capital than he enjoyed in Paris, as Atlético continue to strengthen their midfield options ahead of the new campaign.
