Deportivo have agreed terms to secure Danish midfielder Jonathan Asp Jensen from Bayern Munich for a fee in the region of €6 million, according to reports.
The 20-year-old is expected to finalise his permanent transfer to the Spanish club imminently, subject to completing a standard medical examination. The deal will conclude Asp Jensen’s association with Bayern without the Denmark youth international having made a single senior appearance for the Bundesliga giants.
Productive Spell in Switzerland
Asp Jensen spent the previous campaign on loan at Grasshoppers in the Swiss Super League, where he accumulated valuable first-team experience. Operating from midfield, he contributed nine goals and six assists across 40 appearances for the Zurich-based outfit.
These returns demonstrated his attacking capabilities from deep positions, yet they proved insufficient to secure a pathway into Bayern’s star-studded first team. Rather than arranging another temporary move, the German champions have elected to cash in on the youngster and sanction a permanent departure.
Lazio Negotiations Collapsed
Earlier in the transfer window, Lazio had emerged as frontrunners for Asp Jensen’s signature. The Italian Serie A club held concrete discussions with Bayern regarding the player’s availability but ultimately could not reach a financial agreement with the Bavarian side.
This breakdown in negotiations created an opportunity for Deportivo to intervene and secure the midfielder’s services. The Spanish side will hope Asp Jensen can replicate the creative influence and goal-scoring threat he demonstrated in Switzerland, adding a young, attacking-minded player with proven output in a competitive European league.
For Asp Jensen, the transfer represents a significant step in his development, offering the prospect of regular senior football after finding opportunities completely blocked at Bayern.
