Inter have officially announced the signing of goalkeeper Ivan Provedel from Lazio in a deal worth €3 million. The Italy international completed his medical examinations on Wednesday morning before penning a contract that runs until June 2029.
Inter seal Provedel capture
The 32-year-old arrives at San Siro as the club’s latest reinforcement between the posts, though supporters may need to exercise patience before seeing him in action. Provedel is currently recuperating from a serious shoulder injury sustained in March, which forced him to undergo delicate surgery and prematurely ended his season with the Biancocelesti.
Despite the delayed availability, Inter moved decisively to secure a player who has proven his quality in Serie A. Provedel will compete with Josep Martinez for the starting role, filling the vacancy created by Yann Sommer’s departure from the club.
Injury recovery timeline
Medical staff have indicated that Provedel is unlikely to return to competitive football until the end of August. This timetable suggests the veteran goalkeeper will miss the opening weeks of the 2026-27 campaign as he completes his rehabilitation programme.
Career path and Lazio legacy
The transfer represents a dream move for Provedel, who acknowledged his boyhood support for the Nerazzurri. His professional journey has seen him climb through the Italian football pyramid, from early development at Udinese and Chievo to stints with Perugia, Pisa, Modena, Juve Stabia, Pro Vercelli and Empoli.
His career trajectory changed dramatically following an impressive spell at Spezia, which prompted Lazio to invest €2.55m to acquire his services in the summer of 2022. Over three seasons in Rome, he established himself as a dependable presence and earned regular call-ups to the Italy national team, though he is still awaiting his senior international debut.
Lazio confirmed the departure via social media on Wednesday, posting a farewell message that read: “Thank you for all the memories, Ivan. Wishing you all the best for the future.”
With paperwork now finalised, Provedel will continue his recovery under Inter’s medical supervision, targeting a return to full fitness ahead of the autumn schedule.
