Brentford are nearing an agreement to sign West Ham United winger El Hadji Malick Diouf, with the transfer expected to be finalised within the coming days. The Senegal international has emerged as a priority target for the Premier League side as they seek to bolster their attacking options.
According to reports, only minor details remain to be resolved between the two clubs before the 21-year-old can complete his move across London. The deal represents a significant piece of business for both parties, with West Ham reluctantly sanctioning the departure of one of their most consistent performers from the previous campaign.
Financial pressure forces Hammers’ hand
West Ham’s relegation to the Championship has left the club with little choice but to sell key assets to stabilise their finances. The east London outfit need to generate funds to balance the books after losing Premier League revenue, and Diouf represents their most valuable saleable asset.
The forward currently commands a market value of approximately €28 million, according to Transfermarkt data. This would represent a profit on the €22 million West Ham paid to Czech club Slavia Prague to secure his services just twelve months ago.
Established Premier League pedigree
Despite West Ham’s struggles last season, Diouf quickly adapted to English football. The Ziguinchor-born winger started 32 of his 34 appearances across all competitions, operating primarily on the left flank and registering five assists.
At international level, Diouf has already accumulated 23 caps for Senegal. He featured prominently for the Lions of Teranga at both the Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup, demonstrating his capability on the global stage despite his relative youth.
