Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Tanner Tessmann has emerged as a reported target for Premier League clubs Brentford and Ipswich Town. The 24-year-old United States international faces an uncertain future in France despite featuring in 41 matches across all competitions last season.
According to L’Équipe, scouting departments at both English clubs have identified the former FC Dallas academy graduate as a potential recruit. Tessmann’s athletic statistics have reportedly caught their attention, though neither club has publicly confirmed their interest or submitted a formal bid.
The midfielder is under contract with Lyon until 2029, having joined the Ligue 1 side from Italian club Venezia in 2024 for a fee of €6 million. He started 28 of his 41 appearances last term, yet he has struggled to win over the Lyon supporters or the club’s management.
Manager Paulo Fonseca has shown faith in Tessmann’s versatility by deploying him in various positions throughout recent months. However, the player has faced regular criticism regarding his technical abilities, and the club’s management has been actively looking to offload him since the start of the summer transfer window.
Tessmann has earned 14 caps and scored once for the United States national team. With Lyon actively looking to sell the player, a move to England appears plausible should either Brentford or Ipswich formalise their reported pursuit. The French club would expect to recoup a significant portion of their initial investment, though their desire to sell may provide interested parties with negotiating leverage.
