Brighton and Hove Albion have agreed a deal in principle with Paris FC for the permanent transfer of defender Diego Coppola. The Italian centre-back, who spent the second half of last season on loan in France, is set to return to the Stade Jean Bouin for a fee of €18 million plus a further €2 million in add-ons.

New chapter under Rosenior

Coppola initially joined Paris FC on loan in January and made 14 appearances for the club during the latter stages of the campaign. His temporary spell saw him work under both Stéphane Gilli and Antoine Kombouaré.

The club has since appointed Liam Rosenior as head coach, replacing Kombouaré following the conclusion of his short tenure. Rosenior, who previously managed within the English football structure, now faces the task of steering Paris FC’s transfer strategy, with Coppola’s return representing a significant early piece of business.

Deal awaiting final sign-off

Although the framework of the agreement is in place, the transfer is not yet complete. Brighton retain responsibility for approving the final details of the deal before Coppola can make his return to the French second tier permanent.

The 22-year-old defender joined Brighton from Verona but found opportunities limited at the Premier League club, prompting the temporary move to Paris FC. Should the remaining formalities be concluded, the transfer would mark a swift exit from the Amex Stadium and provide Coppola with stability ahead of the new season under Rosenior’s leadership.
