Stade Rennais have secured the services of United States defender Bryan Reynolds on a permanent transfer from Belgian Pro League outfit KVC Westerlo. The 25-year-old right-back has penned a contract that runs until 2030, committing his future to the French club for the next four seasons.
The Breton side announced the deal without disclosing the financial terms involved. Reynolds arrives in Ligue 1 following an impressive spell in Belgium, where he established himself as one of Westerlo’s standout performers. His previous contract was entering its final year, allowing Rennes to negotiate a move ahead of potential competitors.
From Rome to Brittany via Belgium
Reynolds initially crossed the Atlantic to join AS Roma, though he found opportunities limited during his time in the Italian capital. The Texas native subsequently rebuilt his career in the Belgian Pro League, where consistent displays at Westerlo alerted scouts from across Europe. His ability to contribute both defensively and in advanced areas made him an attractive proposition for clubs monitoring the market for full-backs.
The defender has represented the United States at international level and offers genuine competition for places in a Rennes squad preparing for an increased fixture schedule. His arrival addresses specific positional requirements whilst adding athleticism and crossing ability to the team’s options on the right flank.
Active recruitment continues at Roazhon Park
The signing of Reynolds forms part of a broader recruitment drive as Stade Rennais gear up for a return to European football. The club has been notably busy in the current window, securing multiple targets to enhance squad depth.
Earlier business saw the arrival of midfielder Adrien Thomasson from RC Lens on a free transfer, alongside Portuguese defender Goncalo Oliveira from SL Benfica. Goalkeeper Nicolas Lemaitre has signed from ESTAC Troyes, whilst winger Issa Soumaré joined following the expiration of his contract at Le Havre AC. Young forward Eliezer Mayenda has also completed a significant move from Sunderland for a substantial fee.
With Reynolds now integrated into the group, Rennes possess reinforced defensive cover as they aim to balance domestic ambitions with continental commitments. The American will be expected to challenge for a starting berth immediately, bringing valuable experience from his previous stints in Belgium and Italy to a squad clearly targeting progression in forthcoming campaigns.
