Caio Henrique looks set to join Ajax after the Monaco left-back reached an agreement on personal terms with the Dutch club. The Brazil international is expected to undergo a medical in Amsterdam this weekend ahead of a proposed transfer worth €10 million plus €4 million in add-ons.

The 28-year-old’s departure from the Principality side appears imminent following an injury-disrupted end to last season. Henrique had established himself as Monaco’s first-choice left-back but missed the final weeks of the campaign through fitness problems. Despite featuring in recent Brazil squads, those injury setbacks subsequently cost him a place in the squad for the FIFA World Cup.

Monaco plan defensive reshuffle

Henrique’s exit forms part of a wider rebuild along Monaco’s left flank. Former Brazil defender Filipe Luís is expected to take over as manager, while the club are also closing in on Nazinho from Belgian side Cercle Brugge. Meanwhile, fellow left-back Kassoum Ouattara could depart for Turkish club Besiktas, leaving Monaco with entirely new options in the position.

The São Paulo native joined Monaco in 2020 and became a regular feature in their starting eleven across multiple campaigns. However, persistent fitness issues limited his involvement during the closing stages of the recent season, prompting the club to seek alternatives.

Ajax will hope to finalise the deal swiftly following this weekend’s medical examinations. The transfer would represent a significant defensive addition for the Amsterdam club as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign.
