RC Strasbourg Alsace have confirmed that Valentín Barco has completed a transfer to Chelsea FC. The 22-year-old Argentine has signed a seven-year contract with the Premier League side that will run until June 2033.
The French club announced the departure on Sunday, marking the latest move in the increasingly active transfer relationship between the two BlueCo-owned organisations. While the exact transfer fee remains undisclosed, sources indicate Strasbourg anticipate recording a profit on a player they acquired just twelve months ago for nearly €10 million.
Rapid rise through France
Barco’s journey to Stamford Bridge began with a loan move from Brighton and Hove Albion to Strasbourg during the winter of 2025. The arrangement proved successful enough that the Alsatian club exercised their option to make the deal permanent last summer, investing almost €10 million to secure the left-sided defender’s full registration.
The 25 de Mayo native wasted little time establishing himself as a key figure at the Meinau. Across his eighteen months in France, Barco accumulated 58 appearances in all competitions, with forty-three of those coming during the most recent campaign. His contributions included three goals and eleven assists, underlining his value as an attacking outlet from defensive positions.
The BlueCo pipeline
The transfer continues a notable exodus from Strasbourg to west London. Barco follows manager Liam Rosenior and forward Emmanuel Emegha, who both made the same switch earlier in the window. The concentration of talent moving between the sister clubs reflects the shared ownership structure under BlueCo, which has facilitated several internal transfers since acquiring both entities.
For Chelsea, the acquisition represents another element of their long-term squad building strategy.
