SV Elversberg have announced the acquisition of winger Cole Campbell from Borussia Dortmund, securing the 20-year-old United States international on a contract that runs until the summer of 2030.
The newly-promoted Bundesliga club moved swiftly to bolster their attacking options ahead of their debut campaign in Germany’s top flight. Campbell arrives with prior experience of the division, having sampled its intensity during a temporary stint last season.
Path Through German Football
Campbell’s move to Elversberg marks the next phase of his development in the Bundesliga. The attacker made seven competitive appearances for Dortmund’s senior squad, gaining insights at one of Germany’s most demanding clubs. However, first-team opportunities remained scarce, prompting a loan switch during the previous campaign.
He spent the second half of last season with TSG Hoffenheim, where he featured in five Bundesliga matches. That spell provided the American with his first sustained taste of top-flight action, though he returns to the league now seeking greater consistency and playing time.
Elversberg’s Ambition
The Saarland-based club earned promotion to the Bundesliga and are actively constructing a squad capable of surviving at the higher level. Sporting director Christian Weber identified Campbell as a key target capable of adding dynamism to their forward line.
Weber highlighted the player’s specific qualities upon confirming the deal, stating: “With Cole, we are signing another highly talented player who will help us tremendously with his exceptional pace and his ability in one-on-one situations. We have been working to bring him in for some time and are delighted that he has chosen us.”
Campbell himself conveyed optimism about the switch, commenting: “The conversations with the people responsible at the club were very open from the beginning and continued to develop in a very positive way. I have the feeling that I am joining an exciting team with a lot of potential, where I can make a real contribution. That is why I am convinced that this move to Elversberg is exactly the right step. I am looking forward to the team and this new chapter at the club.”
Long-term Vision
The six-year contract indicates Elversberg regard Campbell as a foundational piece of their project rather than a short-term fix. For the Hawaii-born winger, the agreement offers stability and a clear platform to prove himself as a regular starter.
As Elversberg prepare for life among Germany’s elite, Campbell’s pace and direct running could prove vital weapons. The club will expect him to translate his potential into tangible output as they fight to establish themselves in the top division.
