Como are nearing an agreement to sign Borussia Dortmund right-back Yan Couto on loan with an option to buy, according to Sky Germany and transfer specialist Gianluca Di Marzio.
The Serie A side have made a swift breakthrough in negotiations after previously expressing pessimism about the deal. The proposed arrangement would see the Brazilian defender join Como temporarily, with Sky Germany journalist Patrick Berger suggesting the purchase option stands at €20 million.
Financial structure
This figure falls below the €25 million Dortmund paid Manchester City to sign Couto last summer. The player remains under contract with the Bundesliga club until 2030, meaning BVB would likely seek to recoup their initial investment should the Italian club opt to make the transfer permanent.
The loan structure offers Como flexibility as they continue to strengthen their squad, while providing Dortmund with a pathway to potentially recover most of their outlay. The compromise allows the German club to protect their asset value while giving the right-back an opportunity to gain regular playing time.
Turnaround in talks
Contact between the clubs intensified in recent hours, marking a dramatic shift from earlier reports that indicated Como were exploring alternative targets. The change in tone suggests the Lombardy club have overcome previous obstacles in their pursuit of the 22-year-old.
Couto arrived at Signal Iduna Park from Manchester City on a long-term deal, but could now depart after just one season to gain experience in Italy’s top flight. The temporary move would allow Como to assess the player before committing to a substantial permanent fee.
