Dutch defender Danilho Doekhi has reached a verbal agreement to join SS Lazio upon leaving 1. FC Union Berlin, though the deal remains subject to final confirmation.

The 28-year-old centre-back will depart the Bundesliga club when his contract expires following the 2025/26 season, concluding a four-year stay in the German capital. While terms have been verbally settled between Doekhi and the Serie A side, the transfer is not yet complete and outstanding details are still being negotiated between the relevant parties.

Lazio currently appear to be in pole position to secure the defender’s signature, despite reported interest from multiple other clubs. The Italian outfit stand to acquire Doekhi without paying a transfer fee, bolstering their defensive ranks for the 2026/27 campaign.

The impending departure represents a significant defensive change for Union Berlin, who will lose an established first-team player when his current deal concludes next summer. The club confirmed earlier that Doekhi would not extend his stay beyond the existing agreement.

For Lazio, capturing the Dutchman would add proven Bundesliga experience to their backline. The Rome-based club have moved early to secure a pre-agreement, ensuring they remain ahead of rival suitors for the player’s signature.

The move hinges on the resolution of the remaining contractual elements between the player and the Italian club. Should the arrangement proceed as anticipated, Doekhi would complete his switch to Serie A football ahead of the 2026/27 season, marking a new chapter in his career after establishing himself in Germany.
