Dennis Schmitt is set to be appointed as the new manager of AS Monaco’s Groupe Élite, according to Onze Mondial. The 33-year-old German coach will take charge of the reserve side following an interim spell at Eintracht Frankfurt last season.
Widespread coaching changes
The appointment forms part of a comprehensive restructuring of the club’s technical staff. Djimi Traoré departed his position as manager of the youth side at the conclusion of the campaign, ending his tenure with the Monégasque academy.
Simultaneously, the first team has undergone a managerial transition. Sébastien Pocognoli was relieved of his duties at the end of the season, creating a vacancy at the top of the coaching hierarchy. His successor has not yet been formally announced, though Get French Football News understands that former Brazil defender Filipe Luis will see his arrival confirmed at the start of next month.
Schmitt’s appointment
Schmitt arrives in the Principality with recent Bundesliga experience. The 33-year-old stepped into an interim managerial position at Eintracht Frankfurt during the previous campaign, gaining his first taste of senior-level coaching in the German top flight.
He will be joined by Sofyane Cherfa, a former Monégasque player who accumulated over 300 professional appearances during his career. The Franco-Algerian returns to the club as part of the Groupe Élite coaching setup, bringing substantial practical experience to the developmental environment.
Structure and succession
The coordinated appointments suggest a clear strategic alignment between Monaco’s youth development and senior squad. With Luis set to take charge of the first team imminently, Schmitt’s role in preparing young talents for the step up to Ligue 1 football will carry significant weight in the club’s overall sporting project.
