Italy international Diego Coppola has completed a permanent transfer to Paris FC from Brighton and Hove Albion, the Ligue 1 club have announced. The 22-year-old defender, who spent the second half of last season on loan at the Stade Jean Bouin, has committed his future to the French side with a five-year contract.
From Temporary to Permanent
Coppola initially joined Paris FC on loan in January after struggling to secure regular first-team football at Brighton. During his temporary stint, he made 14 appearances for Les Parisiens, operating under two different managers. He featured firstly for Stéphane Gilli and subsequently for Antoine Kombouaré following a change in the dugout.
His performances during the loan period convinced the club to pursue a full-time deal, though his permanent future had remained uncertain throughout the summer months. The centre-back’s stay has now been secured ahead of the new campaign.
Transfer Terms and Reported Fee
Paris FC confirmed the move for an undisclosed fee. However, French publication L’Équipe reports that Brighton will receive €20 million for the Italian defender. The significant figure, if accurate, would represent substantial business for the Premier League side following Coppola’s limited involvement with their senior squad.
The five-year agreement ties Coppola to the French capital until 2029, providing stability for both player and club as they look to establish themselves in the top flight.
New Management and Brighton Links
Coppola will work under a third different manager during his time at Paris FC next season. Liam Rosenior has taken charge at the Stade Jean Bouin, replacing Kombouaré in the role. The appointment carries an additional layer of connection to Coppola’s former employers, as Rosenior has historic links to Brighton from his time there as a player and coach.
The defender’s permanent arrival bolsters Rosenior’s defensive options as the new manager looks to implement his philosophy at the club. Having already adapted to the demands of French football during his loan spell, Coppola is expected to play a significant role in the upcoming campaign.
