France defender Djibril Sidibé has officially departed Toulouse FC following the expiration of his contract, drawing the curtain on a two-year stint in Ligue 1. The 33-year-old, who lifted the 2018 FIFA World Cup with Les Bleus, joined Le TéFéCé in the summer of 2024 and established himself as a key figure in Carles Martínez Novell’s side.
During his tenure in southwestern France, Sidibé proved a durable and versatile presence, making 63 appearances across all competitions and contributing three goals and seven assists. He featured in every single league match last season, completing 35 games as he alternated between centre-back and right-back to meet the team’s tactical requirements.
Sidibé brings considerable pedigree to his next destination. Prior to his spell in Occitanie, the defender represented AS Monaco, Lille OSC, and ESTAC Troyes in his homeland, while also gaining valuable Premier League experience with Everton and competing in the Greek Super League with AEK Athens. His career highlight remains starting in France’s 4-2 victory over Croatia in the 2018 World Cup final in Moscow, earning him a winner’s medal on football’s biggest stage.
The veteran’s exit may herald broader changes in Toulouse’s defensive department this summer. England youth international Charlie Cresswell is also being linked with a move away, with Ouest-France understanding that the former Leeds United centre-back has agreed personal terms with Stade Rennais. Crystal Palace are also reported to hold an interest in securing the 23-year-old’s signature.
Sidibé now enters the free agent market as he seeks a new challenge. With extensive top-flight experience across multiple European leagues and proven versatility in defensive roles, he represents an experienced option for clubs seeking reinforcement ahead of the new campaign.
