Emersonn has completed his transfer to Ipswich Town in a deal worth €32 million, setting a new record for Toulouse FC, it was confirmed on Wednesday.
The 21-year-old Brazilian striker has signed a five-year contract with the Premier League club, which is managed by Gary O’Neil. The former RC Strasbourg Alsace boss has secured one of his primary targets as he rebuilds the squad.
The fee surpasses Toulouse’s previous record sale of €25 million, which West Ham United paid for defender Issa Diop. Emersonn’s departure comes just twelve months after he arrived at the Ligue 1 side from Turkish club Goztepe for a fee slightly exceeding €3 million.
During his single season in France, Emersonn made 31 appearances across all competitions, scoring seven goals and registering three assists. His performances convinced Ipswich to invest heavily in his potential as they prepare for life in the top flight.
Rapid Return on Investment
Toulouse’s ability to command a tenfold increase on their initial investment underscores the striker’s rapid development. The club acquired him last summer and has now secured a significant profit that will bolster their recruitment plans.
The transfer marks a dramatic rise for the young forward, who spent only one year in French football before earning a move to England’s highest division. Under O’Neil, who understands the demands of European football from his time in France, Emersonn will look to establish himself in the Premier League.
Further Departures Expected
Toulouse are bracing for additional exits during the transfer window. Defender Charlie Cresswell is attracting strong interest from Stade Rennais and Crystal Palace, with both clubs monitoring the former England youth international.
The French side will likely reinvest the record fee as they reshape their squad following the loss of their most valuable asset. Meanwhile, Ipswich have secured a long-term attacking option as they establish their position in the top flight.
