OGC Nice sporting director Roger Ricort has confirmed that Terem Moffi will leave the club this summer, stating the striker is among the players they hope to sell.
Moffi, 27, returned to the French side this week after his loan at FC Porto expired. He reported for pre-season training on Wednesday despite the club making clear he has no future at the Allianz Riviera.
Fallout from November clash
The striker’s departure follows a turbulent period at the club. In November, Moffi was targeted by supporters following a defeat to FC Lorient. The incident prompted the club to place him on sick leave, and he subsequently departed on loan in January without making another appearance for Nice.
Ricort, who recently succeeded Florian Maurice as sporting director, left no doubt about Moffi’s status. The 27-year-old will “surely be transferred elsewhere,” Ricort stated. He added that while the club “don’t necessarily respect the man,” they will “respect the player.”
The director indicated that Moffi will not feature for the team again. Allowing him to play would show a “lack of respect to our supporters,” Ricort explained. However, the club intend to manage the process professionally and will be “proper with him and his agents” until he secures a move.
Moffi remains under contract with Nice until the end of the season. The club are actively working to facilitate his departure.
Teammate also departed
Moffi was not the only player to leave following the November incident. Winger Jérémie Boga, who was also put on sick leave after the fan clash, has since completed a permanent transfer to Juventus. Boga initially joined the Italian club on loan before the deal was made permanent.
The striker now faces the task of finding a new employer before the transfer window closes, with Nice eager to finalise his exit and draw a line under the controversy.
