Juventus have confirmed that Francois Modesto has left his position as technical director by mutual agreement. The Frenchman departs less than 12 months after his arrival, becoming the latest figure to exit following a comprehensive restructuring of the Bianconeri’s hierarchy.
The Serie A giants announced the decision on Friday, noting that Modesto’s departure comes shortly after that of Damien Comolli, the former chief executive who had appointed him last summer. Modesto was appointed on 15 July 2025 but lasted only 360 days in the role, leaving the club with immediate effect following a disappointing campaign.
In an official statement, the club confirmed: “Juventus announces that a mutual agreement has been reached with Francois Modesto for the termination of his position as the Club’s Technical Director, effective immediately.” The statement expressed gratitude for his “dedication and professionalism” and wished him well for his future endeavours.
New era under Italian stewardship
The reshuffle sees Giovanni Carnevali installed as chief executive officer, stepping into the position previously held by Modesto. Former AC Milan sporting director Frederic Massara has been appointed Chief Football Officer, working alongside Marco Ottolini, who retains his role as sporting director.
Club legend Giorgio Chiellini has been promoted to Chief Club Affairs Officer, completing an all-Italian leadership team tasked with overseeing the club’s sporting operations. This shift represents a clear move away from the previous international management approach and leaves no room for Modesto, who has followed Comolli out of the club after their brief tenure together.
Modesto’s brief reign and what follows
Prior to his short-lived stint in Turin, Modesto had established himself as a respected figure in Italian football during his time as Monza’s technical director from 2022 to 2025. His earlier career included a three-year spell at Nottingham Forest between 2019 and 2022, as well as various scouting roles with Greek giants Olympiacos from 2016 to 2022.
With the new structure now fully operational, Carnevali and Massara must quickly address squad planning and restore confidence among supporters. The immediate priority will be to ensure stability after a period of significant boardroom upheaval, allowing the team to refocus on challenging for major honours in the forthcoming campaign.
