Italy international Giorgio Scalvini has committed his future to Atalanta, signing a new contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2031. Despite this long-term agreement, the highly-rated defender has openly stated his ambition to experience playing abroad at some point in his career.

Scalvini, who has spent his entire senior career with Atalanta, confirmed his decision to extend his stay with La Dea during a press conference at Coverciano on Wednesday. He explained his loyalty to the club, stating, “I’ve always been there, and I’ve extended because I’ve always felt good.”

Future Ambitions and Premier League Interest

While content at Atalanta, the 22-year-old centre-back did not shy away from discussing his long-term aspirations. Scalvini indicated a desire to broaden his horizons, telling the media, “One day I’d like to do that to learn new things and new concepts, but I’m already doing it at Atalanta.”

This revelation could offer encouragement to clubs outside Italy who have previously shown interest in the defender. Premier League side Newcastle United reportedly expressed interest in Scalvini during the recent summer transfer window. Chelsea also reportedly monitored the player in the summer of 2025.

Atalanta’s valuation of Scalvini was reported to be in excess of €50 million in July. This figure could potentially rise further following his new contract, reflecting his importance to the Serie A side and his growing reputation.

Scalvini’s Rise

Scalvini made his debut for the Italy national team at the age of 18 under Roberto Mancini. His consistent performances for Atalanta have established him as one of Italy’s most promising defensive talents, making him a key figure for both club and country.

For now, Scalvini remains a central part of Atalanta’s plans, but his comments suggest that a move to a foreign league could be on the cards further down the line, once he feels the time is right for a new challenge.
