Hamburger SV remain confident of securing Fabio Vieira on a permanent basis despite Arsenal rejecting their opening offer for the Portuguese midfielder. The Bundesliga 2 club, where the 26-year-old spent last season on loan, have made retaining the player a priority following his return of 11 goal contributions during the campaign.

Board member Eric Huwer revealed that an official approach has already been submitted to the London club, though the Gunners have so far refused to engage with the proposal. Speaking alongside new sporting director Kathleen Krüger during her first public appearance since taking up the role, Huwer addressed supporters’ questions about the midfielder’s future and made clear the strength of their interest.

“We’ve kind of fallen in love with Fabio. We’re fighting for him every day and have also submitted figures to Arsenal,” Huwer explained. “They’re not even budging yet.” The admission underscores the challenge HSV face in prising the player away from north London, where Arsenal appear content to hold out for improved terms.

Financial boundaries remain firm

Despite the setback, Hamburg are preparing a renewed push. Huwer indicated that any subsequent offer must respect the club’s strict financial parameters, ruling out reckless spending to force a deal. “We’re confident we can make Fabio a competitive offer within our means, without taking on any debt,” he stated.

The German side are also counting on Vieira’s personal desire to return to Hamburg. The playmaker established himself as an important figure during his temporary spell, and HSV hope this connection will prove decisive in convincing Arsenal to sanction a permanent transfer rather than integrating him back into their squad.

Stalemate expected to continue

The rejected bid highlights a significant gap between the clubs’ respective valuations, though HSV’s determination suggests they believe common ground exists. For Arsenal, the dilemma centres on whether Vieira remains part of their plans or whether cashing in now represents prudent squad management.

With the transfer window ongoing, the resolution likely depends on whether Hamburg can structure an improved proposal that satisfies Arsenal’s demands without compromising their own economic stability. Vieira’s own preferences may ultimately determine whether negotiations advance or collapse.
