Hamburger SV has officially announced a contract extension for head coach Merlin Polzin, securing his future with the Bundesliga club. The new long-term deal also includes assistant coaches Loic Fave, Richard Krohn, and Max Bergmann, who have all committed their futures to HSV.
The extensions were confirmed by sporting director Kathleen Krüger, who praised the coaching team’s dedication and expertise. Polzin, who took over as head coach in November 2024, is now recognised as the fifth longest-serving coach among current Bundesliga managers.
Club’s Vote of Confidence
Despite what the club described as a “slow start to the season,” Krüger expressed confidence in the coaching staff’s fundamental work. She stated, “They impress with their expertise, their meticulousness, their diligence, and their daily passion,” highlighting these qualities as central to the club’s decision to extend their contracts.
Krüger emphasised that the club’s trust is built on critical analysis, not a disregard for results. She added, “We communicated our fundamental commitment clearly from the outset and repeatedly recently. We will move forward together, while also being aware of the current sporting situation.” This indicates a long-term vision for the team’s development, with the extensions made “with all the more awareness and conviction.”
The decision to extend the contracts of Polzin and his assistants signals HSV’s belief in their strategic direction and their ability to navigate the challenges of the Bundesliga. It underscores a commitment to stability and continuity in the coaching department as the club aims to improve its performance.
