PULSER FOOTBALL NEWS-3

Sevilla forward Isaac Romero was sent off for a second yellow card after making a provocative silence gesture towards Levante supporters during Monday’s 3-3 draw. The incident occurred following Sevilla’s late goal, which levelled the scoreline.

The referee’s report detailed that Romero turned towards the home crowd and placed his index finger to his mouth after scoring. This gesture, according to the report, provoked a “mass throwing of objects” from the stands, including plastic bottles and cups. The report noted that none of the thrown objects struck any players or officials. Following the incident, stadium officials initiated the first step of the protocol for thrown objects, and play resumed after an announcement was made over the public address system.

Romero had already received a yellow card earlier in the match for a foul. The caution for his goal celebration became his second booking, leading to his dismissal. IFAB Law 12, which governs the Laws of the Game, permits referees to caution players for conduct during goal celebrations that is deemed provocative or excessively exuberant.

While the referee’s report documents the crowd incident and the in-match response, there has been no confirmed ruling against Levante regarding the thrown objects. However, based on the report’s wording, Levante could potentially face a minor fine, with some estimates suggesting it could reach around €602. Similarly, a confirmed suspension for Isaac Romero following his red card has not yet been announced.

This incident adds to ongoing discussions surrounding refereeing decisions and disciplinary actions within La Liga.
