Ismael Bennacer has taken decisive action to secure his departure from Milan by signing with Lian Sports Group. The Algeria international hopes fresh representation will accelerate his exit after falling out of favour at San Siro.

The midfielder remains tied to the club until June 2027, complicating any potential move. New coach Ruben Amorim has made clear that the 27-year-old features in no future plans, leaving him in professional limbo.

From Record Signing to Outcast

Bennacer arrived from Empoli in 2019 for a fee of €17.2 million and established himself as a creative force in midfield. His trajectory changed dramatically following a serious knee injury in May 2023, from which he never fully recovered his previous form.

Attempts to rebuild his career through temporary moves proved unsuccessful. He spent time at Olympique Marseille in February 2025, but the French club opted against a permanent deal. A subsequent loan to Dinamo Zagreb in September 2025 offered another opportunity, though the Croatian champions rejected their €10 million purchase option.

Financial and Sporting Imperatives

Both parties now face a dilemma. Milan wish to recoup value from their initial investment while eliminating a significant salary commitment. Bennacer, meanwhile, requires regular football to revive a career that has stalled through injury and marginalisation.

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the decision to join Lian Sports Group signals Bennacer’s intent to take control of his future. The agency must now identify clubs capable of meeting Milan’s valuation and the player’s wage expectations.

His recent history suggests attracting suitable offers may prove difficult. Prospective suitors will weigh his proven Serie A quality against the risks attached to his fitness record and prolonged absence from competitive action.
