Sassuolo are reportedly monitoring Scotland striker Kieron Bowie as a potential addition to their Serie A squad, though Hellas Verona have set a substantial asking price of €12 million. The demand represents a significant markup from the €6 million Verona paid Scottish Premiership side Hibernian to secure the 23-year-old’s signature during the January transfer window.

Bowie’s brief stint at the Stadio Bentegodi yielded four goals and one assist across 14 appearances during the second half of the campaign. Despite his contributions from the forward line, the striker could not prevent the club’s demotion to Serie B. With Verona now preparing for life in the second tier, the player faces the prospect of securing a swift return to the top flight through a move to the Emilia-Romagna club rather than competing in the lower division.

Rapid appreciation in value

The Gialloblu’s valuation doubles their initial investment after only six months, reflecting both Bowie’s burgeoning international status and the limited availability of proven attacking options in the market. The forward has earned two senior caps for Scotland, though he was not included in the squad for the upcoming World Cup finals in North America.

Sassuolo already boast Scottish representation within their ranks. Left-back Josh Doig made the same journey from Verona to Sassuolo in 2024, establishing a precedent for direct transfers between the clubs. His presence could potentially provide a familiar face to aid Bowie’s adaptation should the move materialise.

Transfer outlook

While no agreement has been reached between the clubs, the interest from Sassuolo offers Bowie a concrete route to remain in Italy’s top division following Verona’s relegation. The forward’s representatives will now assess whether the €12 million valuation represents a fair reflection of his current market value or merely an opening position in negotiations.

The situation leaves Bowie at a career crossroads. At 23, regular first-team football in Serie A would represent significant progression for a player who began the year in Edinburgh. However, Verona’s steep asking price may complicate discussions, particularly given the limited sample size of his performances in Italian football and the financial realities facing clubs in the current transfer window.
