Jhon Lucumí has declared himself ready to provide “important help” to Juventus after arriving in Turin to complete his transfer from Bologna. The Colombia international underwent medical examinations on Sunday and immediately gave his first interview as a Bianconeri player, expressing his excitement at joining what he described as “Italy’s biggest team.”
Lucumí Targets Impact at Bianconeri
Speaking to the club’s official channels, the defender highlighted the significance of his switch to the Turin giants. “I’m very happy to have arrived here,” Lucumí said. “I’m joining the biggest team in Italy,” he added, “and I’m really excited.”
The 26-year-old identified several former Juventus figures as inspirations for his own career path. He singled out fellow Colombian Juan Cuadrado for praise before naming three defensive stalwarts: “I think the first is Cuadrado,” he said, noting that the winger “did a great job here” and remains “a point of reference in Colombia.” He continued: “And then Juventus have had great defenders: Chiellini, Bonucci, Barzagli. I think they’re role models for me and for all players in our position.”
Lucumí also outlined his readiness to contribute immediately, stating that he feels he is in “a good stage of maturity right now.” He believes he can offer significant support to the squad, saying: “I feel like I’ve made the right move and, with these team-mates who are of the highest level, I know I can provide important help and give a lot to Juventus.”
Deal Structure and Negotiations
The transfer sees Lucumí move from Serie A rivals Bologna for a reported fee of €20 million to €22 million, including performance-related bonuses. This figure represents a significant reduction from the €28 million release clause that existed in his Bologna contract, which entered its final year.
Bologna initially demanded €25 million for the centre-back but subsequently lowered their asking price to facilitate the deal. Lucumí spent four seasons with the Rossoblu, establishing himself as a regular starter before securing his move to the eight-time defending Italian champions.
On his early interactions with head coach Luciano Spalletti, Lucumí noted: “We’ve only said hello so far. We have time to talk,” he said, “and to understand what he wants from me for the team.”
The defender is expected to be formally unveiled once contractual formalities are completed, with Juventus set to confirm the exact fee structure and bonus triggers in their official announcement.
