Leeds United goalkeeper Lucas Perri is on the verge of completing a move to Serie A side Torino in a transfer that could eventually be worth up to €15 million to the English club. The proposed deal is structured as an initial season-long loan with an upfront fee of €1 million, which includes an option to buy for a further €14 million that Torino can exercise at a predetermined point in the future.
Record Trafford signing ends Leeds stay
The transfer brings Perri’s brief tenure at Elland Road to a conclusion after just one season in the Premier League. The goalkeeper arrived at Leeds with expectations of competing for the starting position, but the club’s subsequent recruitment activities have fundamentally altered the landscape of their goalkeeping department.
Leeds recently secured the services of England international James Trafford from Burnley in a deal worth €52 million (£45 million). This fee makes Trafford Leeds’s all-time most expensive signing and establishes him as the most expensive English goalkeeper in history.
With Trafford now installed as the undisputed first-choice keeper, Perri has been deemed surplus to requirements at the Yorkshire club. Despite possessing Premier League experience from his single season with Leeds, the competition for places has become insurmountable following the arrival of the record-breaking England international, leaving Perri with no clear pathway to regular first-team football.
First-choice role awaits in Turin
Torino, who finished the 2025-26 Serie A season in 12th place, have identified Perri as their preferred solution to strengthen the goalkeeper position. Manager Ignazio Abate is expected to install the former Leeds keeper as his immediate first-choice shot-stopper, offering the regular playing time that has become unavailable in England.
The loan arrangement provides Torino with a low-risk mechanism to assess Perri’s suitability for Italian football before committing to the substantial permanent fee. The €1 million initial outlay allows the club to evaluate his adaptation to Abate’s tactical system and the demands of Serie A throughout the upcoming campaign.
For Leeds, the structure of the deal offers financial flexibility. The club receives an immediate fee for the loan while retaining the possibility of a €14 million windfall should Torino elect to trigger the purchase option. This arrangement allows Leeds to reduce their goalkeeping roster following the massive investment in Trafford, while maintaining the potential for significant future income.
The move represents a rapid shift in circumstances for Perri, who departs Leeds without having established himself as a regular starter, unable to compete with a goalkeeper who commanded a historic transfer fee. His destination in Turin offers the opportunity to rebuild his career as an established number one in one of Europe’s major leagues.
