Karim Adeyemi has completed his permanent transfer to FC Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund, signing a contract until 2031. The Germany international finalised the move on Thursday, July 23, 2026, after passing his medical examination in the Catalan capital, where he had been stationed for more than a week awaiting official confirmation.
Barcelona will pay an initial €22 million for the 22-year-old winger, with performance-related bonuses that could increase the total outlay to approximately €30 million. Dortmund were compelled to negotiate as Adeyemi entered the final year of his contract, seeking to avoid losing the player on a free transfer next summer.
Dortmund legacy and departure
Adeyemi departs Signal Iduna Park after four seasons in which he made 146 appearances and scored 36 goals across all competitions. He played a significant role in the club’s run to the 2024 Champions League final, featuring in 98 Bundesliga matches during his tenure.
Lars Ricken, Borussia Dortmund’s managing director of sports, said: “Karim has been an important part of Borussia Dortmund over the past four years. In 2024, we reached the Champions League final with him… we agreed that both Karim and we want to pursue different paths in the future.”

Flick reunion and further reinforcements
The transfer reunites Adeyemi with Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick, who awarded the attacker his senior international debut for Germany at age 19 when managing the national side. Their established relationship is expected to ease the player’s integration into the first-team squad.
Barcelona are simultaneously closing in on 18-year-old winger Jesse Bisiou from Belgian champions Club Brugge, as Flick continues to reshape his attacking options ahead of the new campaign.
