Fiorentina are in advanced negotiations to sign Portuguese full-back Joao Mario from Juventus, with the deal expected to be structured as a loan with an option to buy, according to Sky Sport Italia.
Terms of the Agreement
Transfer specialist Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the Viola are working to secure the 26-year-old initially on a temporary basis. The agreement would include an option to make the move permanent at the season’s end for a total fee of approximately €8-9 million.
This figure represents a depreciation from the €12 million Juventus paid to sign Joao Mario from FC Porto in the summer of 2025. Consequently, Porto—who are entitled to 10 per cent of any profit from a future sale under the terms of the original transfer—would not receive additional compensation should the deal to Fiorentina be completed at the proposed price.
Turin Struggles and Bologna Spell
The Portugal international has endured a frustrating tenure in Turin. Since his arrival from Porto, he managed just 13 appearances across all competitions for the Bianconeri, contributing only one assist before being deemed surplus to requirements.
In January, he was loaned to Bologna as part of an exchange arrangement that saw Swedish defender Emil Holm move to Juventus. Joao Mario enjoyed more regular game time at Bologna, featuring 15 times and scoring twice, but neither club opted to make their respective loan deals permanent, forcing both players to return to their parent clubs.

The proposed switch to Fiorentina would offer Joao Mario the chance to remain in Serie A and reignite his career after a disappointing 12 months. For Juventus, the move would allow them to recoup a significant portion of their initial outlay whilst trimming their squad.
