Arijon Ibrahimović has signed a contract extension with FC Bayern Munich that will keep him at the club until June 2028, with the Bundesliga champions confirming the 20-year-old will form part of Vincent Kompany’s first-team squad for the upcoming campaign.

The forward returns to the Allianz Arena following a season on loan at 1.FC Heidenheim, where he gained valuable top-flight experience in Germany. His temporary spell in the Bundesliga followed earlier loan stints with Italian Serie A sides Frosinone and Lazio, which were designed to accelerate his development away from Munich.

Having departed the club temporarily on three separate occasions to build his profile, Ibrahimović now faces the challenge of breaking into the senior side. The 20-year-old joined Bayern’s academy at the age of twelve and has spent the past eight years progressing through the club’s youth structures.

Campus product rewarded

Sporting director Christoph Freund highlighted the attacker’s steady progression through targeted loan moves as evidence of the club’s commitment to nurturing homegrown talent. The extended contract represents a significant milestone in Bayern’s youth development pathway, demonstrating a clear route from academy football to senior squad status.

Freund explained: “Arijon came to Bayern when he was twelve. He has progressed gradually through our Campus and targeted loan spells. During his spell at Heidenheim in particular, he has learned a great deal personally to prepare for FC Bayern. His development is an excellent example of the opportunities we offer our talents. Now it’s no longer only about learning – it’s about making his mark at Bayern.”

Next chapter under Kompany

The Bavarian giants have now ended Ibrahimović’s loan cycle, integrating him directly into Kompany’s senior setup. The new season will mark the first time the 20-year-old competes for a regular place in Bayern’s matchday squad, having previously been limited to cameo appearances before his various temporary moves.

The decision to promote Ibrahimović comes as Bayern continue their squad planning under their head coach. The forward will train with the senior group during pre-season, giving Kompany an opportunity to assess his readiness for top-level football after productive spells in Italy and with Heidenheim.

With the new deal securing his future for the next four years, Ibrahimović will hope to establish himself at the highest level. The extension signals Bayern’s faith that their long-term investment in the player is ready to yield first-team returns.
