Jonathan David has set his sights on a return to French football with Paris FC rather than accepting an approach from Turkish side Trabzonspor, according to reports in Italy. The Canada international has struggled since joining Juventus last summer and the Serie A giants are actively seeking to offload him before the transfer window closes.

David arrived in Turin as a free agent 12 months ago, yet the transfer carried substantial hidden costs. The deal included €12.5 million in commissions and signing-on fees, while the striker currently earns €6 million per season plus €2 million in performance-related bonuses. Despite this significant financial outlay, his return has been disappointing. The 25-year-old managed just eight goals and provided five assists across 46 competitive matches in all competitions.

Tactical Mismatch Drives Juventus Exit

The primary obstacle to David’s success in Turin has been tactical. Coach Luciano Spalletti’s footballing philosophy requires attributes that do not align with the Canadian’s strengths, creating a situation where neither party benefits from continuing the arrangement. Consequently, Juventus are eager to resolve the situation swiftly.

According to Tuttosport and Calciomercato, Turkish club Trabzonspor have tabled the first formal proposal for David’s services. The Super Lig side are seeking to strengthen their attacking options, yet the player himself is reportedly reluctant to make the move to Turkey. Sources suggest David is “not particularly excited” by the prospect of relocating to Trabzonspor.

Ligue 1 Pedigree Influences Decision

Paris FC’s interest offers a more appealing alternative. The second-tier French club could provide David with the opportunity to rediscover the form that made him one of Ligue 1’s most feared strikers during his five-year spell with LOSC Lille. He found the net 109 times in 232 appearances for the Dogues, establishing himself as a reliable goalscorer in one of Europe’s top leagues.

Juventus have set their valuation at between €20 million and €30 million for a permanent transfer. However, they acknowledge that a loan arrangement with an obligation or option to buy might prove necessary to secure an agreement, given David’s underwhelming season and limited market demand.

The coming days will prove decisive as Juventus attempt to reconcile their financial requirements with David’s desire to return to France. With the player favouring Paris FC over the Turkish alternative, negotiations between the clubs may accelerate as they seek a resolution that suits all parties.
