Lille OSC are close to agreeing a deal with NEC Nijmegen for Turkish winger Başar Önal. According to reports, the French club hope to secure the 22-year-old for a fee of €9.5 million, with further bonuses included in the proposed structure.
The transfer would mark a rapid step up for the Turkey Under-21 international. Önal only joined NEC from De Graaschap last summer for €1 million. Despite his brief time at the club, he became a vital figure under manager Dick Shreuder, starting 29 of his 34 appearances last season and cementing his status as a first-team regular.
Eredivisie Impact
Önal’s direct contributions were central to NEC’s surprise third-place finish in the Dutch top flight. The attacker found the net nine times and supplied nine assists across all competitions, establishing himself as one of the league’s most productive wide players.
His form earned him recognition at international level. The winger, who was born in Doetinchem, has earned eight caps for Turkey’s Under-21 side and scored once, adding to his growing reputation.
Contract Situation
Although Önal remains under contract with NEC until the end of the 2025-26 season, the Dutch side appear ready to sanction a move. Lille’s bid would generate a substantial profit on the €1 million investment made just 12 months ago.
The proposed switch would see the 22-year-old swap the Eredivisie for Ligue 1, offering him a platform in one of Europe’s major leagues. Lille, who regularly compete in continental competition, view the deal as a strategic addition to their attacking options ahead of the new campaign. The northern French club hope to conclude negotiations swiftly to integrate Önal into their squad for pre-season preparations.
Final details are still being negotiated, but an agreement is thought to be imminent.
