Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay has been cleared to return to action, with manager Massimiliano Allegri confirming his inclusion in the squad for Saturday’s Serie A clash against Frosinone. This marks a significant step for the Scotland international, who underwent a minor heart procedure just over a month ago.
Return to the Squad
Allegri announced McTominay’s availability during his pre-match press conference on Friday, stating that the midfielder would be part of the matchday squad. While he is not expected to start, the manager indicated that McTominay could feature for approximately 20-30 minutes off the bench, providing a welcome boost to the team.
“The news is that McTominay will be called up and we will have him available for at least 20-30 minutes,” Allegri confirmed.
Recovery from Heart Procedure
McTominay’s last appearance for Napoli was on August 30, in a 2-1 Serie A defeat to Como. Shortly after, on September 8, he underwent a minor surgical procedure at the Spire hospital in Manchester to address a mild, benign arrhythmia. Following the operation, the midfielder was required to observe a full fortnight of complete rest.
He was given the all-clear to resume full training with Napoli only on Wednesday, making his swift return to the matchday squad a testament to his recovery and the medical team’s assessment.
Team Injury Update
While McTominay’s return is positive news, Napoli continues to contend with other injury concerns. Key players such as Antonio Vergara and Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa remain sidelined. McTominay’s presence, even for a limited period, will offer Allegri more options in midfield as the team navigates its Serie A campaign.
