Italy Under-21 international goalkeeper Lorenzo Palmisani has committed his future to Frosinone, signing a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2031. The new long-term deal comes swiftly after his heroic performance in Frosinone’s recent 2-0 Serie A victory over Como, a match where his goalkeeping prowess was on full display.
Rising Star’s New Deal
Palmisani, a product of the Frosinone youth academy, was instrumental in securing a crucial clean sheet against Como, a display that earned him the prestigious Serie A Man of the Match award. His commanding presence between the posts helped inflict the first defeat of the season on Como, a side managed by former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
Fabregas himself acknowledged Palmisani’s talent after the match, telling DAZN Italia, “I didn’t know their goalkeeper before this, but if I was Roberto Mancini, I’d think about him.”
Juventus’ Missed Opportunity
The new contract and Palmisani’s surging form highlight a potential missed opportunity for Italian giants Juventus. Reports indicate that Juventus had been in discussions to acquire the young goalkeeper for a fee of €8 million this summer but ultimately decided against the move.
Since then, Palmisani’s market value has reportedly tripled, a testament to his impressive performances in Serie A. His recent contract extension not only solidifies his position as a key player at Frosinone but also significantly increases his valuation, making any potential future transfer considerably more costly for interested clubs.
Key to Frosinone’s Success
Palmisani, who celebrated his 22nd birthday in June, was undeniably a pivotal figure in Frosinone’s successful promotion from Serie B last season. During that campaign, he kept an impressive 15 clean sheets and parried 80 per cent of the efforts on target, consistently demonstrating his high-level quality and reliability.
His commitment to Frosinone comes at an exciting time, just before he is set to join the Italy Under-21 squad for upcoming European Championship qualifiers. The young Azzurri are scheduled to face Armenia on October 1 and Poland on October 5, and Palmisani is widely expected to play a key role in these crucial fixtures.
