Olympique Lyonnais have initiated discussions with Glasgow Rangers regarding the potential transfer of striker Youssef Chermiti.

The Ligue 1 club are seeking attacking reinforcements this summer and have identified the 22-year-old Portugal Under-21 international as a candidate to lead their line. Chermiti enjoyed a productive debut season in Scotland following his €8 million move from Everton last summer, scoring 15 goals and providing five assists across 41 appearances in all competitions.

Negotiations and Potential Fee

Talks between the French side and the Scottish Premiership club have already taken place. Lyon are considering a formal proposal worth just under €20 million, with various bonuses included in the structure.

The potential deal would represent significant profit for Rangers just twelve months after securing the forward’s signature. However, the Glasgow club face a decision over whether to retain a player who adapted swiftly to Scottish football.

Lyon’s Attacking Overhaul

Lyon urgently require new options in attack following the departure of three senior forwards. Endrick has returned to Real Madrid after his loan spell expired, Rachid Ghezzal left upon the conclusion of his contract, and Roman Yaremchuk’s temporary move has not been made permanent.

This trio’s exit leaves a substantial gap in offensive resources. Lyon previously explored signing Hearts striker Claudio Braga but have since prioritised Chermiti, viewing the Portugal youth international as a solution to their goalscoring requirements.

Any completed transfer would offer Chermiti a second opportunity to establish himself in one of Europe’s major leagues. Further negotiations are anticipated as Lyon seek to finalise their attacking options ahead of the new campaign.
