Lyon reach agreement for Nakamura
Olympique Lyonnais have reached an agreement with Stade de Reims to sign Japan international Keito Nakamura, L’Équipe reports. The 26-year-old winger is set to move to the Rhône-based club on a €2 million loan deal that carries a mandatory buy-out clause of approximately €11 million, not including bonuses.
Nakamura is already travelling to Lyon to complete a medical examination. Yet the transfer remains conditional. The French publication indicates he will only sign his contract once Malick Fofana’s expected departure has been sealed. The 21-year-old Belgian attacker is reportedly on the verge of joining Premier League side Crystal Palace, and Lyon appear to be using that outgoing transfer to facilitate their incoming business.
From LASK to Ligue 1 prominence
Nakamura arrived at Reims from Austrian Bundesliga club LASK in the summer of 2023 for a fee of €12 million. During his time with the Champagne-based outfit, he established himself as a consistent attacking threat, amassing 97 appearances across all competitions and directly contributing to 37 goals — scoring 30 and providing seven assists. Fifty-seven of those matches came in France’s top flight.
The Japanese forward’s performances have also translated to the international arena. He has collected 29 senior caps for the Samurai Blue, finding the net 11 times. He represented Japan at the 2026 World Cup, where he found the net once and laid on a goal for a team-mate. Those displays have helped maintain his reputation as one of his country’s most reliable attacking exports in Europe.
Transfer structure and next steps
Because Nakamura is tied to Reims until 2028, the loan arrangement allows Lyon to bring him in immediately while deferring the larger financial commitment. If the buy-out clause is activated, Reims would recover nearly the full amount they paid LASK two years ago.
The finalisation of the deal now hinges on Fofana’s exit. Lyon must complete that sale before Nakamura can formally join, meaning both transfers are likely to progress in tandem over the coming days. Should everything fall into place, Lyon will have secured a proven Ligue 1 goalscorer to reinforce their attacking options.
