Marseille enter race for Chelsea’s Washington

Olympique de Marseille have enquired about Chelsea forward Deivid Washington, entering the race for the 21-year-old Brazilian who is expected to secure a loan move away from Stamford Bridge this summer.

Washington has struggled to break into Chelsea’s first team since joining the Premier League side. With limited opportunities to develop at the senior level, a temporary departure has become the most likely outcome as the transfer window progresses.

Strasbourg and Sevilla submit offers

The young striker faces a choice between several European destinations. RC Strasbourg Alsace, who share ownership with Chelsea under the BlueCo umbrella, have submitted a formal offer for Washington. The French side are seeking attacking reinforcements following the departure of Emanuel Emegha and a serious setback for Joaquín Panichelli, who sustained an ACL injury and is not expected to return until the turn of the year.

Spanish club Sevilla have also tabled an offer for the forward, providing an alternative route for the player to gain valuable first-team experience in La Liga.

Washington researches Marseille option

The latest interest from Marseille adds another dimension to Washington’s decision. The Ligue 1 club’s enquiry suggests they see potential in the Brazilian, who has reportedly taken steps to learn more about life in France.

According to reports, Washington has spoken to compatriot Luis Henrique, who previously played for Marseille, to gather insight about the club and the city before making any commitment.

With multiple offers now on the table and a loan move all but certain, Washington must carefully consider which environment will best serve his development. The striker needs regular minutes at the senior level after finding opportunities scarce at Chelsea, and each suitor offers a different path to achieving that goal.
