PULSER FOOTBALL NEWS-3

Mason Greenwood is poised to turn down a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia in favour of remaining in European football, with the forward expected to depart Olympique de Marseille this summer.

The 24-year-old, who previously played for Manchester United, has rejected significant proposals from Al-Ahli, Al Qadsiah and Al Diriyah, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri. The Saudi clubs approached the English forward with substantial financial packages, but Greenwood has opted to pursue his career within Europe’s major leagues instead.

Fenerbahce lead the chase

Turkish club Fenerbahce has emerged as the frontrunner in the race for Greenwood’s signature. L’Équipe reports that the Super Lig side has reached an agreement on personal terms with the player, paving the way for a potential transfer. However, the deal remains incomplete as Fenerbahce has not yet agreed a fee with Marseille, creating a significant hurdle that must be cleared before the move can proceed.

Roma provide alternative

AS Roma presents a competing destination for Greenwood. The Serie A club has registered concrete interest in signing the forward, and sources indicate that Greenwood is keen on a move to the Italian capital. Nevertheless, Roma faces the same obstacle as their Turkish rivals: the inability to reach a financial agreement with Marseille.

The French outfit value the attacker at €50 million, a figure that both clubs must meet to secure his services.

What happens next

The situation leaves Greenwood in a transitional phase as the summer window progresses. While personal terms with Fenerbahce suggest a preference for Turkey, the player’s openness to Roma indicates that the final decision hinges on which club can successfully negotiate with the Ligue 1 side.

Greenwood spent two seasons with Marseille following his departure from Old Trafford. With the Saudi option now definitively rejected, the coming weeks will likely determine whether he opts for the Turkish Super Lig or Italy’s Serie A.
