Newcastle United have identified Bayer Leverkusen striker Christian Kofane as a potential target, though the German champions are reluctant to part with the Cameroon international after just one season.
According to German outlet Bild, the Magpies are considering a move for the 19-year-old forward, who has attracted significant attention following his performances in the Bundesliga. However, securing his signature would require an exceptional financial commitment that tests Newcastle’s transfer resources.
Bayer Leverkusen are understood to be resistant to selling Kofane so soon after his arrival. The club would only reconsider their position if presented with an offer that significantly exceeds standard market rates, having invested in the striker’s development during the current campaign.
Valuation and Previous Interest
Estimates from late March valued Kofane between €60 million and €70 million. However, the player’s representative, Eric Depolo, has set a much higher benchmark. Depolo described the teenager as a “€100 million player”, signalling that any interested club would need to meet substantial demands to secure his services.
Newcastle are not the first Premier League side to register interest in the forward. Arsenal previously demonstrated what Depolo characterised as “genuine” interest in the Leverkusen striker, though no transfer materialised at that stage.
Newcastle’s Recruitment Drive
The potential pursuit of Kofane forms part of a broader recruitment strategy on Tyneside. The club are reportedly close to completing a €50 million deal for Hoffenheim winger Bazoumana Touré, indicating significant investment in attacking options.
Whether Kofane would be open to joining the project at St James’ Park remains unclear.
