Newcastle United are weighing up a move for SC Freiburg midfielder Johan Manzambi, according to reports from Sky Sports and the Daily Mail. The Premier League club have identified the 20-year-old as a potential target following his impressive displays for Switzerland at the World Cup.
The Swiss international has scored three goals and provided one assist in three tournament appearances, building upon a strong 2025/26 season with Freiburg. During that campaign, he recorded seven goals and nine assists across 47 appearances in all competitions, establishing himself as a key creative force in the Bundesliga.
Significant Investment Required
English media reports suggest Newcastle would need to submit a bid in the region of €46–48 million to tempt Freiburg into selling their prized asset. This valuation reflects both Manzambi’s current ability and his considerable potential at just 20 years old.
However, securing the midfielder’s signature presents considerable challenges. Manzambi is contracted to Freiburg until 2030, giving the club long-term security over his services. Crucially, his contract does not contain a release clause, meaning Freiburg are under absolutely no obligation to sell and can reject any bid that does not meet their expectations.
