Yan Diomandé has informed Paris Saint-Germain of his wish to join the club this summer, placing the French champions in pole position to secure the RB Leipzig winger despite Liverpool submitting offers exceeding €100 million.
The 19-year-old Ivory Coast international has emerged as the most sought-after young talent following his exploits at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Operating on the wing for Emerse Faé’s side, Diomandé became the only player in the 21st century to record more than ten dribbles and create over ten chances across his first three tournament appearances, according to Opta data. Those performances alerted Europe’s elite, with Liverpool and PSG emerging as the principal suitors.
Liverpool bids fall short
The Merseyside club had moved aggressively to secure Diomandé’s signature, identifying him as a long-term successor to Mohamed Salah. The Reds tabled multiple bids understood to surpass the €100 million mark, yet the teenager has indicated a clear preference for a move to the French capital instead.
A contractual agreement based on a five-year deal is already under discussion between PSG and the player’s camp. Although the financial package on offer in Paris will reportedly fall short of Liverpool’s proposal in terms of wages, the opportunity to join the back-to-back Champions League winners has proven decisive for the Ivorian.
Deal mechanics
The transfer fee required to prise Diomandé from Leipzig is expected to be lower than Liverpool’s substantial offers. PSG anticipate smooth negotiations with the Bundesliga club thanks to the close working relationship between president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi and Red Bull chief Oliver Mintzlaff. Mintzlaff serves on the board of the European Club Association, which Al-Khelaïfi chairs, while the two entities maintain broader commercial collaborations beyond football.
RB Leipzig are now awaiting formal confirmation of the player’s decision to kick-start official talks. PSG intend to act swiftly once Diomandé concludes his post-World Cup break, aiming to have the deal concluded before the new season.
