Real Madrid has formally demanded the immediate resignation of Javier Tebas from his roles as LaLiga president and vice president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
The demand, issued by the club on October 16, follows Tebas’s comparison of Real Madrid TV’s communication methods to propaganda techniques used in Nazi Germany. Real Madrid described the remarks as deeply offensive and unacceptable.
Club’s Strong Response
In its formal response, Real Madrid stated that Tebas’s comments constituted an extraordinary and unacceptable attack on the club, its management, and its television channel. The club argued that any clarification from Tebas did not lessen the seriousness of his comparison.
Real Madrid linked Tebas’s remarks to his ongoing criticism of the club regarding the Negreira case. The club has previously approached UEFA for clarification on payments made to the vice president of the Technical Committee of Referees and has called for a comprehensive overhaul of the refereeing system in Spanish football.
The club further asserted that Tebas’s repeated conduct demonstrates a clear lack of neutrality, respect, and impartiality, which it deems incompatible with his institutional responsibilities. Real Madrid believes these actions disqualify him from continuing in either his LaLiga or RFEF positions.
CSD Review Underway
Adding another layer to the dispute, Spain’s Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD) is currently studying whether to take action regarding Tebas’s comments. The CSD is considering acting on its own initiative, known as ex officio, to review the remarks.
However, no formal disciplinary proceedings or sanctions have been confirmed by the CSD at this stage. Tebas himself expressed surprise at the news that the CSD was reviewing his comments.
The situation highlights the ongoing tension between Real Madrid and Javier Tebas, particularly concerning issues of football governance and refereeing in Spain.
