AC Milan head coach Ruben Amorim has reportedly shifted his perspective on the club’s summer transfer activity, acknowledging that some new signings might not align with his tactical system. This change in stance follows a challenging period for the Rossoneri, marked by a 2-0 home defeat to Benfica in their Europa League opener.
The Italian giants are currently enduring a three-game winless streak across all competitions, a run that has intensified scrutiny on Amorim’s leadership. His recent comments contrast sharply with his earlier assessment of Milan’s transfer window, which he had previously rated as “10/10” just before a match against Juventus.
Speaking after the Benfica loss, Amorim admitted that achieving immediate tactical harmony with a new squad is difficult. “I don’t have the clear characteristics that are perfect at this moment, but it is impossible when you take on a new team to have those perfect characteristics right away,” he stated.
Amorim, who signed a three-year contract with an option for an additional year, also addressed the high expectations at a club of Milan’s stature. He expressed his understanding of the pressure for consistent victories. “I know it will take time, but I also know that there is big pressure at this club, yet I prefer this kind of job because if I need to fail one day, I want to fail big,” he remarked. He added, “I have a lot of passion for this club. I want to help this club to be better. I don’t know if I will have the time, but I look at my players, and I think they are listening to everything that I say, and that gives me hope we can solve these problems.”
In light of the team’s recent struggles, Amorim is scheduled to meet with Milan owner Gerry Cardinale to discuss the current situation. The Rossoneri will look to bounce back when they host Lecce at San Siro next Sunday, in their final fixture before the upcoming international break.
