Sassuolo are closing in on the signing of Hellas Verona striker Kieron Bowie. A decisive meeting is scheduled for Tuesday to finalise a deal believed to be worth €9-10 million plus additional bonuses, which would see the Scotland international swap Serie B for a stay in the Italian top flight.
The forward has emerged as a priority target for Sassuolo despite competition from domestic rivals and abroad. Cagliari, Bologna and Scottish champions Celtic have all been linked with Bowie since Verona’s relegation from Serie A, but the Emilia-Romagna club have moved to the front of the queue. Verona signed the 22-year-old from Hibernian in January 2026 for €6 million, meaning they stand to make a significant profit on their initial investment after just six months.
Player exchange discussed
Negotiations could involve a swap arrangement. Samuele Mulattieri, the 25-year-old centre-forward currently on Sassuolo’s books, may head to Verona as part of the transaction. Mulattieri graduated from the Inter Milan youth academy before moving to Sassuolo in 2023 for €5.3 million. He spent last season on loan at Spanish second-tier side Deportivo La Coruña.
Brief but productive spell
Bowie made an immediate impact after arriving in Italy during the January transfer window. He found the net four times and provided one assist in 14 appearances for Verona. However, those contributions could not prevent the club from dropping into Serie B, prompting the striker to seek a move to remain in the top division.
The Tuesday meeting is expected to resolve the remaining details of the transfer. If completed, the deal would allow Bowie to continue his development in Serie A while providing Verona with a substantial fee and potentially a proven replacement in Mulattieri.
