ESTAC Troyes have secured the signature of Australian goalkeeper Patrick Beach from Melbourne City on a five-year contract. The 22-year-old joins the Ligue 1 club for an undisclosed fee following a breakthrough season in the A-League and on the international stage.
From Debut to World Cup in Months
Beach’s ascent to the top of Australian football has been remarkably rapid. He earned his first cap for the Socceroos only last November, accumulating just six caps before the recent FIFA World Cup. Despite this limited international experience, he was surprisingly chosen as Australia’s No.1 for the tournament, preferred to veteran captain Matt Ryan, who had served as the established first-choice for many years.
The decision was vindicated by Beach’s performances in North America. He delivered a standout display during Australia’s 2-0 victory over Turkiye, making eight saves to secure a clean sheet against difficult opposition. He cemented his status as his nation’s new premier goalkeeper during the tournament, earning plaudits for his composure despite his relative inexperience at senior level.
City Group Connection Facilitates Move
The transfer was made possible by the ownership structure connecting both clubs. Troyes and Melbourne City both operate under the City Group umbrella, which enabled straightforward negotiations for the undisclosed fee.
Beach departs Melbourne after an impressive 2024-25 campaign. He established himself as the club’s first-choice shot-stopper during his debut season in the role, playing a crucial part in their A-League title triumph. His domestic success, combined with his World Cup displays, prompted Troyes to act quickly to secure his signature.
Troyes return to Ligue 1 next season following promotion from the second tier. Beach’s five-year commitment suggests the French club view him as a long-term solution between the posts as they aim to establish themselves in the top flight. The Australian arrives with both international tournament experience and recent championship-winning form, offering Troyes a blend of youth and proven ability as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
