Fulham defender Issa Diop is scheduled to undergo a medical at Ipswich Town after the clubs reached an agreement over a transfer worth approximately €10 million (£8.4m).
The Morocco international is expected to sign a four-year contract with the Premier League newcomers. The deal comes with one year remaining on his existing agreement at Craven Cottage, allowing Fulham to secure a fee for the 29-year-old, who arrived at the club in 2022.
Diop established himself as a squad member during his four-year spell in West London, making 96 appearances across all competitions. However, he featured only 13 times in the Premier League last season as manager Marco Silva rotated his defensive options.
International pedigree
Born in France, the centre-back represented Les Bleus at youth level before switching his international allegiance to Morocco. He subsequently featured for the Atlas Lions at the FIFA World Cup, bringing valuable top-level international experience to Portman Road.
Ipswich recruitment drive
Ipswich Town secured automatic promotion back to the top flight and have moved quickly to strengthen their defensive options. The fee represents a significant outlay for the newly-promoted side as they seek to reinforce their backline ahead of the demanding Premier League campaign.
The transfer remains contingent upon the successful completion of the medical examination. If all procedures are passed without issue, Diop will finalise his switch to Portman Road and become Ipswich’s latest summer recruit.
The departure marks the end of Diop’s association with Fulham, where he contributed to their Premier League campaigns but faced increasing competition for starting places during the previous term.
