Zaïre-Emery Voices Frustration to French Coaching Staff
Warren Zaïre-Emery has expressed his dismay to the France national team coaching staff after failing to appear in any of Les Bleus’ first five World Cup matches, according to L’Équipe. The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, 20, is reportedly struggling to accept his continued exclusion despite arriving at the tournament on the back of a highly successful season with his club.
The PSG academy graduate is understood to have shared his frustration with Didier Deschamps’ backroom team, adding to conversations he has already held with those closest to him. This marks a painful repeat of his Euro 2024 experience, where he similarly watched from the substitutes’ bench without playing a single minute across the entire competition.
Fourth Choice in Deschamps’ Midfield Hierarchy
Deschamps currently regards Zaïre-Emery as fourth or even fifth choice in his midfield pecking order. The teenager has been unable to force his way into the starting XI ahead of more established internationals, leaving him on the periphery of a star-studded squad.
The management does not view him as a suitable option to cover for Jules Koundé at right-back should the Barcelona defender require rotation, further limiting his avenues into the side. This positioning highlights the fierce competition for places within the French setup, even for players performing strongly at club level.
Tchouaméni Injury Could Offer Breakthrough
An injury to Real Madrid’s Aurélien Tchouaméni could, however, alter the landscape. Should the defensive midfielder prove unavailable for selection, Zaïre-Emery may finally receive his opportunity to make his senior international breakthrough during the knockout stages.
The 20-year-old is thought to be anticipating such a chance with great eagerness, hoping that his patience is rewarded with his first competitive minutes for France. After sitting out two consecutive major tournaments without featuring, the teenager is desperate to avoid a third successive disappointment on the international stage.
