Yan Diomande has agreed personal terms on a five-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain, though RB Leipzig are insisting on a transfer fee exceeding €100 million to release the 19-year-old Ivory Coast winger.
The Bundesliga club, who value the player at approximately €130 million, are engaged in intensive negotiations with the French champions after rejecting a €100 million bid from Liverpool earlier in the transfer window. Diomande, currently representing Ivory Coast at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, has informed PSG of his desire to move to the Parc des Princes, with sources indicating he is convinced by the club’s long-term project under manager Luis Enrique.
Despite the player’s preference, Leipzig hold considerable leverage. The winger is contracted until 2030, and managing director Marcel Schäfer has publicly stated that the club have “no intention” of letting Diomande leave this summer. The teenager registered 13 goals and 10 assists across 36 appearances during the 2025-26 campaign, justifying the German side’s high valuation as they field enquiries from Europe’s elite.
World Cup focus
While transfer speculation intensifies, Diomande maintains he is completely detached from the negotiations. Speaking to Bild from the World Cup, he claimed to have no knowledge of the saga unfolding around his future.
“That’s news to me,” he said. “I don’t have internet, I don’t have Instagram.” He explained that his agent handles all discussions with the club, adding that he refuses to distract himself from the tournament. “I want to make history with my country,” he emphasised, noting that the World Cup comes only every four years.
His focus on Ivory Coast notwithstanding, reports suggest Diomande believes PSG offers the optimal platform to compete for major honours and pursue individual accolades such as the Ballon d’Or. The close relationship between Red Bull chief Oliver Mintzlaff and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi could prove decisive in bridging the current valuation gap.
Loan compromise
One potential resolution involves Diomande remaining at Leipzig on loan for the 2026-27 season, which could reduce the immediate transfer fee. This arrangement would allow the winger to continue his development in familiar surroundings while effectively becoming a PSG player the following campaign.
Liverpool must now decide whether to substantially increase their bid to match Leipzig’s demands or redirect their efforts toward alternative targets. With personal terms already settled between Diomande and PSG, the French club remain favourites to secure one of the summer’s most sought-after signatures, provided they can satisfy Leipzig’s financial requirements or agree to the loan structure.
