Niko Bungert, the sporting director at 1. FSV Mainz 05, has confirmed that experienced goalkeeper Daniel Batz will leave the club this summer. The player’s contract ends when the season finishes, and he will not sign a new deal.
Reports suggest that Batz is heading to fellow Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach. Bungert spoke to the media after Mainz beat FC St. Pauli 2-1 on Sunday. He said the 35-year-old wants to accept an offer from another team.
“We held talks with him,” Bungert told Sky. “He informed us a few days ago that he received an offer. He would like to accept it. At 35 years old, this is a very good contract for him.”
Batz has played 26 matches for Mainz this season. He replaced Robin Zentner in the team for many games. Zentner has been injured for much of the campaign.
The goalkeeper joined Mainz from 1. FC Saarbrücken in 2023. He provided important backup during his time at the club.
