Werder Bremen striker Niclas Füllkrug has received his first call-up to the Germany national squad in over a year, a significant development driven by his outstanding form in the Bundesliga. The forward, currently on loan at Werder Bremen from West Ham, has been in prolific touch, topping the league’s scoring charts with an impressive nine goals in just eight appearances.
Klopp Details Reasons for Füllkrug’s Recall
Germany head coach Jürgen Klopp provided a detailed explanation for his decision to include the 33-year-old striker in the national team. Speaking in an interview with DFB.tv, Klopp emphasised Füllkrug’s exceptional performance, his consistent goal-scoring, the considerable influence he exerts on Werder Bremen’s overall play, and the valuable experience he brings to the squad.
Klopp elaborated on his choice, stating: “Fülle has performed very well during this period, scoring all kinds of goals – almost all of them spectacular, but in very different ways. He has had an incredible influence on Werder Bremen’s play, not just through his goals, but also through the way he conducts himself on the pitch. Of course, the experience he brings with him is a huge help in that regard.”
A Timely Return to International Duty
Füllkrug’s last appearance for Die Nationalmannschaft was in June 2025, making this recall a testament to his resurgence. His consistent goal-scoring and leadership at club level have clearly made a compelling case for his return to the international stage. Throughout his career with the national team, Füllkrug has proven his capability in front of goal, having netted 14 goals in 24 appearances for Germany.
His current loan spell at Werder Bremen has been instrumental in showcasing his renewed sharpness and effectiveness. By leading the Bundesliga scoring charts, Füllkrug has not only propelled his club’s fortunes but also demonstrated the kind of form that national teams seek, especially when looking for reliable attacking options. This call-up highlights the direct correlation between strong club performances and international recognition.
