Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Désiré Doué has etched his name into French football history by claiming the Ligue 1 Young Player of the Season award for the second year in succession. The talented 20-year-old becomes only the third footballer to achieve this remarkable feat, following in the footsteps of former winners Eden Hazard and Kylian Mbappé.

This season, Doué has featured in 22 league matches for the Parisian giants. He has found the net seven times and provided three assists for his teammates. His contributions have helped propel PSG to the brink of another domestic triumph. The club stands on the verge of securing a fifth consecutive Ligue 1 title. A draw against nearest challengers RC Lens on Wednesday would be sufficient to seal the championship.

The young Frenchman fended off stiff competition to retain his crown. Fellow Paris Saint-Germain stars Warren Zaïre-Emery and João Neves were also in contention for the honour. Valentin Barco of RC Strasbourg Alsace and Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille OSC completed the shortlist of nominees.

This victory extends PSG’s remarkable stranglehold on the UNFP Young Player category. Last year, Zaïre-Emery took home the trophy, whilst Nuno Mendes claimed it in 2023. The last time a player from outside the Parc des Princes won this accolade was in 2022. Arsenal defender William Saliba received the prize during his loan spell at Olympique de Marseille.
